Image from Photographs from the Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 1914-1917 vol. 1 (Local Studies 940. 3 SSTQ). The 1911 census records George Henry McNeal, aged 36, living at 25, Montgomery Road, Sheffield. McNeal was the minister of the Victoria Hall Methodist Mission. A native of Lancashire, he died on 16 Dec 1934 at Hastings in Sussex, aged 60. His obituary (Yorkshire Post, 17 Dec 1934 (p. 12) records 'At Sheffield his dynamic personality and his inspiring speaking aroused great interest among his people.' After serving in Sheffield he went on to serve as Minister of Wesley rsquo;s Chapel, City Road, London. He was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Sheffield on his departure for London.
